A RADICAL FAMILY COOPERATIVE

A Caregiving Community Against Oppression

Empower Oceanside is a group of majority B,I,POC families that advocate for autonomy of children and others against supremacy.

We are caregivers and kids that collaborate in dreaming, playing, and, activism by gathering in a safe group where dignity is centered, we can be ourselves, and we advocate for our most vulnerable to be free to be themselves.

Collective Self-Led Learning and Unlearning

Empower Oceanside is an interconnected, open-ended, self-directed community for collective learning and care that centers each unique child and their family. We aim to create an intentional group of folx that empower one another to be free.

People of the Global Majority

We are looking for families to join us as comrades on this social justice and empowerment journey. We seek to co-create a diverse community of radical self-directed folx: mixed-age, Queer, mixed-ability, and B,I,POC. We specifically want to center the experiences and cultures of the global majority - Black, Brown, Indigenous, and People of Color - so the cooperative is intentionally anti-white supremacy.

Oceanside, California - Payómkawichum Land

Empower Oceanside acknowledges that we are on the unceded traditional territory of the Payómkawichum, who are the first and rightful people of the Western coastal land which was colonized by European settlers and on which Oceanside was developed. Colonization led to genocide, disease, enslavement, stolen land, broken treaties, assimilation, and forced removal of the original peoples to reservations.

In Oceanside and Northern San Diego plus Riverside and Orange County, the Payómkawichum continue to thrive as six different bands of Luiseño Indians:

The reservations of Soboba and Pechanga in Riverside County as well as Pauma, Pala, La Jolla and Rincon in San Diego County are the ancestral lands of our people, and the hope for our future. Collectively, we reference ourselves as the Payomkawichum or Western People.

By practicing being free with our young ones, we can invest in the liberation of our Oceanside and San Diego communities.
